WhatsApp is in top of the free messaging app for smart phone. WhatsApp and Skype are most popular and widely used for personal and business contacts.
If you know the features of your smart phone/device use it more conveniently, control the use, save power and would be safe for you. Although WhatsApp is free app to send message and media to contacts, it requires data connection to be activated.
Configure auto download
By default media files are downloaded auto, you need to change it from settings. If you are in a group, you get messages and files every minute, definitely do not want to see dozen pictures of their dinner. Stop all these and download files which you like to see. Configure auto download from WhatsApp settings.
Steps to configure auto download in android phone
Step 1: Open WhatsApp application and tap to three vertical dots to open more options in main window.
Step 2: Then tap to Settings.
Step 3: Chats and calls.
Step 4: Media auto-download.
Step 5: Now you have three options to manage auto-download for media files. When using mobile data, When connected on Wi-Fi and When roaming. Choose what you want to set. Here for mobile data tap to see the options.
Step 6: Select on checkbox if you want Images, Audio, Videos and Documents to auto-download or un-check all (as you want) not to auto-download.
Do the same settings for When connected on Wi-Fi and When roaming.
iPhone
Unfortunately, there is no way to stop WhatsApp from auto-downloading photos on your iPhone. Photos are saved automatically, it will ask you whether you want to download videos.
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and tap the button at bottom right.
Step 2: Go to Chat Settings – Save incoming media – Off
BlackBerry
Step 1: Settings – Media settings – Media auto-download.
Step 2: Now select When using cellular data and uncheck all three – Images, Audio and Video. Go back and follow same steps with When connected on Wi-Fi and When roaming.
Windows Phone
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and tap the three vertical dots at the bottom of main window.
Settings – Chat settings – Media auto download.
Step 2: Now tap Images and select Never. Do the same for Video and Audio. If you select Never you will be able to download media when you want to.
