There are many reasons why you might need to do the factory reset your phone. Maybe you have just updated your phone or your phone is overloaded and running slowly. Or, selling your phone where it is very important to factory reset your phone.
Note: You should do it when selling your phone.
How to prepare your phone?
It is usual that get all important app listed in any other places like write down to notepad or notebook, so you can find all those apps on play store with the help of that list. As a creator, we keep some of important files and app.
Also, list all your contact or transfer it to another, usually we use Gmail where all these are saved automatically. Again you need to care about all other files and remove SD card before factory reset your phone (it does not remove from memory card but remove it for precaution).
I am here using HTC phone, so the steps might differ to you. But it is almost same for other phones.
How to factory reset your phone from settings?
It is the simple and easy way to do a factory reset. You need to go to your phone settings menu and then find the option there to reset the phone. In some cases, it is little hard to find and in some phones, you will see it under the settings menu.
- Goto settings
- Tap Backup & reset
- Tap Reset phone
- If you want to delete media, documents, and other data from the phone storage, select Erase all data.
To also delete media and other data from your storage card, select Erase SD card
- Tap OK
In other phone there might be one more option under “settings” and ask you PIN number while doing so. You must know it before reset phone. You can find default PIN number (usally 0000) in your guide book.

This way differ from device to device. Here some work with Volume Down and Power button and some with Volume Up and Power button. For a hard reset, you should follow your phones model guide.
