How To Uninstall Windows Movie Maker

Movie Maker from Windows was very easy to handle software for making movies. Years ago when I had Windows XP, I enjoyed playing with it.

Movie Maker has great and important features for a video maker at that time and very easy to create a good video with just a few clicks. You could add photos, videos and make a pretty good video with intro and credit. The template lets you do everything you just choose what to add or remove.

About Movie Maker

Windows Movie Maker

Version: 2012, a part of the Windows Essentials suite. It included:

  • Windows Movie Maker
  • Windows Photo Gallery
  • Windows Live Writer
  • Windows Live Mail
  • Windows Live Family Safety
  • OneDrive desktop app for Windows

Why uninstall Movie Maker?

Well, the software is still available on different websites but Microsoft has removed it from their new projects(system). The software worked fine but not recommended, use it on your own risk.

For me, I have been using it in 8.1 for a few months and XP for years, along with other video editors. They no longer support it but I had quite a good experience when I had not good video editors for a short period of time.

Because they are not providing any support for this software you should uninstall it. In my case, I can not open it (sometimes) and I have alternatives to it.

How to uninstall Movie Maker?

Windows Essentials uninstalling

You will not find Movie Maker on Control Panel by its search box or manually. You have to remove the package called Windows Essentials. Same happened with me I spend nearly half an hour to figure out it is not a separate software even though I installed the full package almost a years ago.

  • Open Control Panel
  • Search for Windows Essentials
  • Hit the Uninstall button
